Stowe is Vermont's most celebrated mountain village, a place where a white-steepled church rises against the backdrop of Mount Mansfield—Vermont's highest peak. The town's Main Street is a postcard of New England charm, lined with local shops, cozy restaurants, and historic inns that have welcomed visitors for over a century.
While Stowe is renowned for skiing—the resort has operated since 1933, making it one of America's oldest—the town offers year-round appeal. The Stowe Recreation Path winds 5.3 miles through the valley, wildflower meadows bloom in summer, and fall brings some of the most spectacular foliage in New England. The von Trapp Family Lodge, established by the real family that inspired "The Sound of Music," adds a touch of alpine romance.
Despite its fame, Stowe retains an authenticity that many ski towns have lost. This is a real Vermont village with a working community, not a purpose-built resort.
