Camden is that rarest of New England treasures—a place where forested mountains tumble directly into a working harbor filled with historic windjammer schooners. The town's setting, at the foot of Mount Battie in the Camden Hills, creates views that have drawn artists, sailors, and romantics for over a century.
The harbor is the heart of Camden, lined with restaurants, shops, and the tall masts of the Maine windjammer fleet. These historic schooners offer multi-day cruises along the coast, a tradition dating back to the 1930s when Camden became the birthplace of Maine's windjammer industry. On land, the main street offers independent bookstores, galleries, and the kind of local shops that have largely disappeared from America.
Camden Hills State Park provides easy access to Mount Battie, where a short hike or scenic drive rewards visitors with one of the most photographed views on the Eastern Seaboard. On clear days, you can see all the way to Acadia National Park.

Camden is located on the Maine coast, about 2 hours north of Portland. Summer brings the windjammers and perfect sailing weather, fall offers spectacular foliage views from Mount Battie, and winter provides a quiet, cozy escape. The Camden Windjammer Festival in early September is a highlight.
